The visit of Prof. Eden Mamut, BSUN Secretary General to Boğaziçi University
On February 13th, 2023, Prof. Eden Mamut, Secretary General of the Black Sea Universities Network (BSUN), paid a working visit at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul, were he had a meeting with the Prof. Mehmet Naci Inci, Rector of Boğaziçi University.
Prof. Naci Inci is a member of the BSUN Presidential Troika, in his position as Future President of BSUN for the mandate 2024-2026.
On this occasion, in the name of the Academic Community of the Black Sea Universities Network, Prof. Mamut expressed his compassion and solidarity with the victims of the cataclysm and offered condolences to the bereaved families during the two devastating earthquakes that occurred in Türkiye and Syria.
The discussions focused on the identification of the pathways in which the BSUN member universities could support the colleagues from the Turkish universities in order to pass over the effects of the disaster. Thus, the parties have agreed to initiate a program of assistance for the people traumatized by the disaster caused by the cataclysm.
Specifically, trauma specialists from the member institutions and partner organizations of BSUN, such as Person-Centered Approach Institute (IACP) from Italy, will cooperate with their colleagues from the Turkish universities in order to assure the trauma informed care assistance and psychotherapeutic services for victims in the affected areas.
The second initiative that was agreed by the parties concerns the organization of a Working Group of professors and experts in the field of assistance for reconstructing regions affected by natural disasters, urban and regional planning in order to formulate science-based solutions for the reconstruction of the affected regions in Türkiye. Within this initiative, BSUN shall invite the partner universities from the European University Alliance - EPICUR, in which BSUN is an associated member.
The discussions between Prof. Mamut and Rector Naci Inci included also aspects related to the organization of the future session of the BSUN Executive Board meeting, which shall take place on April 25th, 2023, in Istanbul.
For the coordination of the agreed projects, Prof. Naci Inci delegated Prof. Gurkan Selcuk Kumbaroglu, Vice-Rector of Boğaziçi University.
